| Ray started his Fire and E.M.S. career at a very young age. Ray could often be found wondering around " The Hosey" in Kulpmont since age 10. He followed in his fathers footsteps and in 1984 at age 14 he officially became a Junior member of the Kulpmont Fire Company No. 1, "East End", Station 220. Since that time Ray has attended multiple Local, State, Federal and National 9-1-1, Fire, Rescue, EMS and Police Courses. In 1986 still tagging along on Dads shirt tail, he joined the Kulpmont Community Ambulance-Station 230. In 1987 Ray was certified by the Pa. Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Technician - M.A.S.T. In 1988 Ray became an A-Member of Station 230 and has held many offices within this organization. He served as Assistant E.M.S. Chief (1989-90) and as E.M.S. Chief (1990-92) to name a few. Ray has a strong 9-1-1, Fire, Rescue and EMS backround. Ray worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for a paid Ambulance Service from 1988 to 1991. In 1992 he was hired by the Shamokin Area Community Hospital Advanced Life Support Services as an E.M.T. and was employed by the Hospital until the A.L.S. unit was disbanded in 1996, "R.I.P. 9 - MEDIC" In 1995 Ray tested and became certified by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications and the Pa. State Fire Commisioners Office as a Nationally Certified Firefighter I, in 2000 Ray was certified by the Pa. Department of Health as a Vehicle Rescue Technician, in 2000 he was certified by P.E.M.A. as a Radiological Response Technician, in 2001 he was certified as an Emergency 9-1-1 Telecommunicator/Supervisor, in 2010 Ray became certified as a Firefighter II and Ray has recently completed classes at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland and has earned his certification as a Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Specialist II. Since Ray has been involved with the Kulpmont Fire Company No. 1 he has held many offices within the Fire Service, he served as Training Officer ( 1990-92), 1st Lieutenant ( 1992-93), 2nd Lieutenant ( 1993-94), and Captain ( 1994-96). He has served as Assistant Fire Chief (1996-98), Deputy Fire Chief (1998-00), Chief of the Department (2000-02) and Safety Officer where he held the Rank of a Battalion Chief (2002-04) with the Kulpmont Borough Fire Department. In 2004 after 20 Years of Service Ray became a Life member of the Kulpmont Fire Company No. 1. Ray finished up his 8 Year Chief term with the Fire Department and was re-elected to the Rank of Captain at Station 220 where he served his term from 2005-2006. In 2009 Ray was again elected to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief and served in that capacity till 2010 when he was elected to serve as Deputy Chief of the Department. Ray resides in the throbbing metropolis of Ranshaw, PA. with his wife Shannon and his English Bull Dog, Otis. Ray is also a very active member with the Brady Fire Company #5, Station 150, of Coal Township since 1993. Ray enjoys hunting with his younger brother Matthew, camping and riding his A.T.V. In 2003 Ray finished a 12 year career as a 9-1-1 Emergency Telecomunicator. In August of 1991 Ray was hired by the City of Shamokin as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher and had worked in that capacity until 1995. In 1995 he was asked to come on board with the New Northumberland County 9-1-1 Communications Center as a 9-1-1 Supervisor and he excepted. In June of 2001 Ray was promoted to 9-1-1 Coordinator and served in that position until November of 2003. Ray is a volunteer member of the Elysburg Fire Department and had worked on a per diem basis for the Advanced Life Support Unit as an E.M.T.D./Firefighter since its inception in January of 2000. In November of 2003 Ray was offered a Full Time Position by the Department and he excepted, he was brought on board as a Full Time Staff E.M.T./Firefighter. In October 2003 Ray tested and was excepted into the Lackawanna College (Hazleton Campus) Act 120 Police Academy. This was a long time dream of Ray and his prayers were answered he began classes in January of 2004. He was nominated and elected Class President and in June of 2004 Ray graduated. On the night of his graduation he was honored by being presented with the Luzerne County Sheriffs Department, Eugene Boyarski Award. This award also known as the Distinguished Student Award, it is presented to the top graduating Police Cadet of the Lackawanna College that displayed the most dedication and professionalism and who exceeded and excelled in all aspects of the Act 120 Municipal Law Enforcement Academy. This award is the highest award a graduating Police Cadet can receive and the Cadet is nominated for this award by his or her Academy Instructors. Following his graduation in 2004 Ray was hired by the Ralpho Township Police Department and started working as a Police Officer with that Department. In January 2006 after months of testing Ray was hired as a Full Time Police Officer with the City of Shamokin Police Department. In addition to his patrol duties Ray also serves as the Police Department's Fire Investigator and has recently completed training as a Tactical Medic. Ray was asked if he would remain on-board as a Part Time Employee with the Elysburg Fire Department A.L.S. Unit and he excepted! IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE GREATEST MAN THAT EVER LIVED.
